Statistics released recently by local officials indicate that the number of newly established Taiwan-funded projects in Xiamen increased by 19 percent last year. Total trade volume with Taiwan increased by 12 percent and the total scale of Taiwan business investment funds exceeded six billion yuan. More than 1,200 Taiwan-funded enterprises registered in the city in 2024, up 12.5 percent year-on-year.

More than 110 Taiwan-funded enterprises registered in the city in the first quarter of the year, up 32.5 percent year-on-year.

Xiamen Port inaugurates bulk durian imports

Xiamen Port officially launched bulk durian imports last week with the arrival at Haitian Wharf of 11 containers carrying 170 tons of Vietnamese durian aboard the SITC Fangcheng cargo vessel.

Xiamen Port has adopted a green channel customs method that allows for the advanced declaration of goods and that prioritizes the examination and inspection of customs documents. Port officials said that the green channel helps to ensure an intact cold chain for durian imports.

SM Xiamen Haicang project passes key acceptance phase

The SM Supermalls shopping mall chain announced last week that its SM Xiamen Haicang Project last month passed its completion acceptance stage. The complex is the first local SM commercial project outside the island of Xiamen. It is slated to open in the second half of the year.

The project's total construction area exceeds 140,000 square meters, including supermarkets, lifestyle stores and entertainment venues. The complex will also include children's areas, catering services and approximately 900 parking spaces.

Su Song Academy debuts in Tongan

Local officials officially inaugurated the Su Song Academy on May 1. The academy is located in Tongan's Su Song Park. The complex includes educational installations that depict the life and legacy of Su Song, an eleventh-century scientist and statesman of Hokkien ancestry who hailed from Fujian.

The multifaceted Su Song is known for his creation of a water-driven astronomical clock tower. He also wrote important treatises covering pharmacology and astronomy in addition to his work as an ambassador and a minister of justice.

Xiamen Xiangan International Airport to feature thermal energy storage system

Local authorities announced last week the installation of major equipment for an integrated thermal energy storage chilled water system at the upcoming Xiamen Xiangan International Airport. The system will use thermal energy storage to save an average of 12,300 kilowatt-hours of electricity per day.

The construction area of the project covers more than 3,500 square meters. It includes a trio of chilled water storage tanks that can store low-temperature water equal to 4.6 standard swimming pools.

Xiamen enters summer fishing moratorium

Xiamen's summer moratorium on ocean fishing began last Friday. The three-and-a-half-month fishing pause wraps up on August 16. During the moratorium, all fishing vessels subject to the moratorium must return to their place of registration and can leave port only with permission or to change their berthing locations.

Banmei Folk Culture Park makes public debut

The Banmei Folk Culture Park in Huli's Wutong community opened on a trial basis earlier this month. The park, which sits at the intersection of Penang and Hengyi Road, is open free of charge. Reservations for tours can be made on the 五缘顾虑 WeChat mini-app.

The park is home to multiple cultural landmarks such as the homes of Wang Qingxiang, Shi Shirong and Shi Dachun. It is also the site of the Shi family temple and Banmei 99 Rooms.
